Jamshedpur, in Jharkhand, is hardly a popular stop on any traveller’s itinerary, yet it has a steady flow of traffic in the form of business visitors, given that the town is a major centre of steel production thanks to the Tata Steel plant. As such, it is important that there are good, reliable business hotels in Jamshedpur, and Jiva does not disappoint.
Jiva is one of the top hotels in town, probably a three-star by any independent measure, but given the relative remoteness (the closest airport, Ranchi, is three hours’ drive away), is four-plus stars. When you enter there is a spartan, spotless, modern lobby, featuring smiling, friendly and English-speaking staff. Rooms are similarly contemporary and spotless, featuring modern keycard locks and appealing toiletries. If you look closely the hotel is a little rough around the far corners, for example a small patch of peeling paint here, a bit of dust there. But none of it takes away from the overall feeling of comfort and cleanliness, which is such a relief when spending long hours out working in the heat and dust.
Jiva features a few different places to dine. There is a lobby cafe serving coffee, tea and pastries, a restaurant serving international fare, both a la carte and buffet style, and a bar and entertainment hall on the top floor, where you can either host a party or relax with a drink. All are modern, welcoming and featuring tasty meals.
